Dresden Duplicate Club
Dresden Duplicate Club convened Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the American Legion Building in Dresden. Our attendance was low in numbers today but high in spirit and laughter for the challenge of the afternoon.
We were dazzled by the array of food. Freddye Oliver brought chicken livers in a crock-pot (to keep warm) for the entire group to enjoy for lunch. We also had crab salmon dip, beef, cheese ball, mixed nuts and Wasabi peas. Along with Monterey cheese with jalapeno peppers and those delicious Betty Crocker cookies, we all had plenty.
Winners were Freddye Oliver and Toni Pritchett, first place; Mary Jane Thornton and Roberta Meyer, second place; and Carol Ehlers and Jackye Hohman, third. We welcomed back Carol Ehlers from her trip to Turkey.
The following recipe I have made for bridge luncheons decades ago. It is still one of my favorites.
16 graham crackers (crushed)
1/2 cup melted butter
Mix the above and line an ice tray with half of the mixture. (You may not have ice trays, but you can improvise)
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup pure lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
Cook in double boiler till thick. Cool.
In a separate bowl beat two egg whites and 1 cup whipping cream.
