If Union City Elementary School students read 100,000 books this year, principal Michael Paul Miller has promised to spend the night on the roof of the school.
Teachers say students are off to a great start. To build on their enthusiasm and reach the goal, the school is promoting reading at home and is planning to host a Family Reading Night.
Books read during this night will count toward the goal. On Tuesday, students in kindergarten through second grade will participate at the school with their parents, while students in grades third through fifth and their parents will be welcome Thursday.
The PTO will begin selling pizza and beverages at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:15 each night.
There will be special guest speakers for the parents while the children rotate between different readers.
“Come join the fun and help put Mr. Miller on the roof,” a spokesman said.
