Completed arrangements are being announced for Opal (Arnett) Hudson Roper, 88, of Union City, who died Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. David Russell officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today.
Pallbearers will be Matt Sparkes, David Sparkes, John Sparkes, Larry Jobe, Richard Dobbins and Bob Nichols.
The family requests that memorials be made to Union City First United Methodist Church.
She was born March 28, 1919, in Corinth, Miss., daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Emma (Lindsey) Arnett. She married Harry Caldwell Hudson Oct. 10, 1939. He died Aug. 31, 1968. She married Murrell Clifford Roper Oct. 16, 1982. He died March 20, 1988. She was a retired employee of the former Shainberg’s and Falkoff’s department stores in Union City. A member of Union City First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Margaret Carter Sunday School Class, she was also a member of Union City Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Bill Sparkes of Memphis; her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Hudson and Nancy Noble of Santa Fe, N.M.; three grandchildren, William Matthew Sparkes and David Lee Sparkes, both of Memphis, and John Hudson Sparkes of Lexington, Ky.; her step-granddaughter, Susan Upson of Irvine, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Rodriguez, Hudson Carter Sparkes and Nicholas Patrick Sparkes, all of Memphis; her step-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Upson of Irvine; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
