3-vehicle accident sends 6 to E.R.
A three-vehicle accident just outside of Martin Thursday morning sent six people, including four children, to the emergency room. According to an accident report by the Martin Police Department, the three-vehicle crash resulted when a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Carol Hopper of Harrison Road in Martin pulled in front of a vehicle driven by Tina Avent of Hwy 431 in Martin.
The report cites Hopper was traveling south on Harrison Road when she stopped at the intersection of Skyhawk Parkway and Harrison Road. Hopper allegedly pulled in front of Avent, who was traveling east on Skyhawk Parkway.
The collision apparently sent Hopper’s van airborne and caused the vehicle to collide with an ’85 Ford truck driven by Joshua Dodson of New Home Road in Martin. Dodson was reportedly traveling north on Harrison Road before stopping at the intersection waiting for oncoming traffic.
Avent was transporting four minors in her ’93 Pontiac Bonneville at the time of the accident. Everyone in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Hopper was also transported to a local hospital and later sent to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was cited for failure to yield right of way.
Dodson reportedly suffered only minor injuries and did not receive a medical transport.
The MPD, Martin Fire Department, Weakley County Ambulance Service and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The extent of the victims’ injuries was unknown at press time.
