Doolittle to host Christmas concert

NASHVILLE (AP) — Former “American Idol” finalist Melinda Doolittle will host Belmont University’s annual concert, which will air nationally on PBS on Christmas Eve.
“I have a lot of wonderful memories from performing at Belmont,” Doolittle, a 1999 Belmont graduate, said in a statement Friday. “I’m really, really excited to be coming back.”
“Christmas at Belmont,” will tape Nov. 19 at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center and feature more than 400 student voices along with members of the School of Music faculty and the Nashville Children’s Choir. Past hosts include singers Josh Turner and Brenda Lee.
After premiering Dec. 20 on Nashville Public Television, the concert will air nationally Dec. 24 at 10 p.m. EST.
Doolittle graduated from Belmont with a degree in commercial voice and began her professional singing career as a backup singer for acts such as BeBe and CeCe Winans, Michael McDonald, Kirk Franklin, Aaron Neville, Alabama, Jonny Lang and Anointed.
She was a finalists on the sixth season of “American Idol,” finishing third to winner Jordin Sparks and runner-up Blake Lewis.
Since the show, she’s performed in the “American Idol” national tour and has been preparing for her debut album.
