The New Salem FCE Club ladies met Oct 5, a beautiful fall afternoon, in the home of Bettie and Deanna Higgs.
President Higgs opened the meeting by reading the Thought of the Day about autumn days that are fulfilling, lovely and full of cheer. She welcomed the guests into her home and to the meeting.
Sara Simmons gave devotion thoughts based on Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” Mary E. Bell led the songs, “School Days” and “Bringing in the Sheaves,” and everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to Mary Elizabeth for her October birthday and repeated the club creed together.
As Secretary Ruby Rogers called the roll, each one presented a trick or treat item to the person seated to her left and read the minutes. Sylvia Simmons collected dues and gave the treasurer’s report.
October is a busy month for us. Beginning on Oct. 1, several ladies from the Weakley County FCE traveled to Camden to the Freshwater Pearl Farm and enjoyed an interesting description of how the pearl farm began and developed into a thriving business. And also on Oct. 1, the council meet at the Farm Bureau building to make Christmas favors for nursing home residents and then meet for a council meeting. On Oct. 25, New Salem ladies will have a bingo party at the Weakley County Nursing Home at 1:30 p.m.
For the program, leader Mary E. Bell gave a report from the day at Freshwater Pearl Farms and showed pictures made that day.
Following the program, Bettie and Deanna provided recreation and refreshments, which everyone enjoyed.
The next meeting will be at the home of Ruby Rogers at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. A telethon donation will be taken at this meeting, and members will bring teenage gifts for WeCare.
