Completed arrangements are being announced for Paul E. Stearns, 77, of Fulton, who died 3:26 a.m. Oct. 10, 2007, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with the Rev. Johnie Dalton officiating and burial following in Mount Zion Cemetery. Masonic services will be 7 p.m. today.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the hour of services.
The family requests that memorials be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 202 Goodman St., Cincinnati, OH 45219.
He was born July 31, 1930, in Jackson County, Ill., son of the late Lawrence “Fuzzy” and Ruth (Anglin) Stearns. He moved to the area from Illinois in 1974 and was a retired employee of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, where he worked as a conductor until 1992. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Roberts’ Masonic Lodge No. 172 and the Railroaders Shrine Club. He was also a Rizpah Shriner.
Survivors include his wife, the former LaDonna Penrod, whom he married Nov. 8, 1952; two daughters, Susan Renae Carter of Tunica, Miss., and Lisa Dale Swift of Fulton; three sons, Warren Allen Stearns of Ripley, W.V., William Andrew “Bill” Stearns and Albert Eugene “Bert” Stearns, both of Carbondale, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Ann Leggans of Cambria, Ill., June Knapp of Herrin, Ill., and Dawn Fell of Green Bay, Wis.; two brothers, Daniel E. Stearns of Willamina, Ore., and John E. Stearns of McMinnville, Ore.; and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
