Best-selling author Trelease to speak tonight at Union | | | The Messenger 10.11.07 Best-selling author Jim Trelease will address parents, teachers and the general public about the importance of reading aloud to children as a way to instill a love for literature during a visit tonight to Union University in Jackson. Trelease is the author of the New York Times best-seller “The Read Aloud Handbook.” His lecture address is entitled “Reading aloud: Motivating children to make books into friends, not enemies.” He spent 20 years as a writer for a daily newspaper in New England and now speaks around the country to various schools and educational groups. A book-signing will follow Trelease’s address at Union. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel in the Penick Academic Complex. It is free and open to the public.
