Birdie Burl (McKinnis) Hicks, 94, of Obion County died at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin Oct. 8, 2007.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Thomas officiating, assisted by the Revs. Dale True and Jimmy Calhoun. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery in the Crystal community.
Friends may call at the funeral home 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Thomas Hicks and Chad Hicks, both of Troy, G.G. Hicks, Jason Hicks and Keith Douglas, all of Union City, Jeremy Hicks of Martin, Mark Barber of Henderson and Hal Jenkins of Jackson; and her granddaughters, Carol Sharp, Denise Peery and Teresa Riley, all of Jackson, Jennifer Slack of Martin, Christie Jenkins of Memphis and Laurie Eaves of Union City.
The family requests that memorials be made to Mount Manuel United Methodist Church on Highway 22 near Union City.
She was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Obion County, daughter of the late Daniel Wesley and Josie Clara (Woods) McKinnis. She married A.C. Hicks in 1935. He died March 22, 1973. She had worked at the former Salant & Salant in Union City for 19 years and was the oldest member of Mount Manuel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Leon Barber of Union City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Charlotte Hicks and Larry and Harriet Hicks, all of Union City, and Gary and Kathy Hicks of Martin; her daughter-in-law, Ruby Hicks of Union City; and 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Howell Wesley Hicks; eight brothers, J.T. McKinnis, H.L. McKinnis, Roland McKinnis, Woodrow McKinnis, Hugh Ed McKinnis, Dan McKinnis, Jim McKinnis and Fred McKinnis; and her sister, Ruth Stafford.
