A Union City senior citizen who received a phone call from a solicitor seeking personal information is warning other residents of a possible scam.
The woman told The Messenger Thursday that she received a call from someone who identified himself as “Michael” and who said he knew she was a senior citizen on a fixed income. He claimed he wanted to give her a new medical card and proceeded to ask for personal information that included her bank account number.
Neither she nor her husband provided the information to the caller and she said she has reported the incident to the Obion County Sheriff’s Department.
“I want to alert other people,” the victim said. “If they targeted us in the Union City numbers, they may target others in this area.”
Police frequently urge local residents to use caution when approached with anything that sounds too good to be true and to never give out personal information such as bank account or credit card numbers.
