Season ends at region for Weakley County golfers | | | Dreams of participating in the TSSAA golf state tournament were dashed Monday for the Westview Lady Chargers and Chargers golf teams and for Gleason’s Mallorie James. Competing in the Region 7 A-AA Golf Tourna-ment held at the Tennessee River Golf Club in Decatur-ville, both Westview squads finished in sixth place in the team competition. The University School of Jackson swept both the girls and boys regional titles to advance to the state tournament to be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at Murfreesboro. Only the top team and the four best individual scores earn a chance to play for the state crown. Westview’s Jordan Hayes came the closest to making a state tournament appearance as an individual. The Charger senior carded a 76, just one stroke off the state-tourney bound pace. The four golfers moving on to the state tournament to compete as an individual are Brett Barry (71) from Jackson Christian School, Adam Clark (73) from Dyer County, Adam Foy (74) from Trinity Christian Academy and TCA teammate Heath Lay (75). On the girls side, Gleason’s James had the best showing among Weakley County representatives with a 105. Westview’s top individual performance came from Chelsea Breeden with a 112 on her card. The four female golfers advancing to next week’s state tournament are Dyersburg’s Allyson Agee (74), Lexington’s Jessica Maness (81) and Laken Yarbro (86) and Trinity Christian Academy’s Mary Elizabeth Yarbro (90).
