Fine Arts Club holds meeting
wcp 10-04-07
The Fine Arts Club of Martin held its first meeting of the 2007-08 year on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the home of Mrs. Bill Pritchett. Hostesses assisting were Mrs. Morris Liming and Mrs. John Chester.
After a delicious dessert of chocolate cobbler topped with strawberry cheesecake ice cream and coffee were served, President Mrs. Mike Hinds conducted a business meeting. She thanked our yearbook committee. The cover of our yearbook is a copy of an original painting by our founder, Mrs. Florence Taylor. Mrs. Taylor taught art for many years in Martin. Mrs. Bill Pritchett has the original painting hanging in her living room and also had several pieces of Mrs. Taylor’s hand-painted china on display.
President Hinds called on Mrs. John Wall to introduce our speaker for the day, Dr. Hobart Beale. Dr. Beale has done extensive research on Martin’s Greatest Year of Activity, 1924. In one year, a new high school, plans for a hospital and Harmon Field were all successful accomplishments. Dr. Beale’s wit and humor, added to his great knowledge of Martin, made for an enjoyable program.
Members in attendance not already mentioned were Mrs. James Cannon, Mrs. Bob Cheeseman, Mrs. Donnie Davis, Mrs. Joe Exum, Mrs. Tom Gallien, Mrs. Bob Peeler, Mrs. E.B. Pritchett, Mrs. George Pritchett, Mrs. James Pritchett, Mrs. Lee Pritchett, Mrs. Robert Pritchett, Mrs. James Shore, Mrs. Sandy Truitt and Mrs. Fred Vowell.
