Claud C. Clifton, 90, of Martin, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital.
Services were held 1 p.m. Monday at Gardner Church of Christ. Burial was at East Side Cemetery. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bill Jackson, Randy Jowers, Ron Phillips, John Reynolds, Ron Roberts and Joe Smith served as pallbearers.
Clifton was born April 20, 1917, in Dickson, son of William Wesley and Josie Glasner Clifton. He was a World War II Army veteran and participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 422nd Infantry. He spent four months as a prisoner of war. Service decorations he received include the Bronze Star, POW Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two service stars and Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He moved to Martin in 1966 and retired from Martin Tool & Tie in 2002. He was a member of Gardner Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Alene Clifton of Martin; one son, Larry Clifton of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Rebecca Clifton Davidson of Martin; five grandchildren, Mike Davidson and Greg Davidson, both of Martin, and Carrie Besse, Graham Clifton and Alan Clifton, all of Birmingham, Ala.; and nine great-grandchildren, Monica Davidson, Dustin Davidson and Holly Davidson, all of Martin, Emily Besse, Eric Besse, Jack Besse, Colin Clifton, Ryan Clifton and MacKenzie Clifton, all of Birmingham, Ala.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Clifton and Jesse Clifton; and one sister, Ada Glass.
