Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center

Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center
9-25-07
The facility was full of well wishers on Tuesday afternoon. Joseph Brewer was surprised with a special tea recognizing his many years as honorary sheriff of Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. On hand for the ceremony were members of the Sheriff’s Department, the ambulance and rescue squad, 9-1-1 service, elected officials, family members and staff. Our distinguished sheriff was all smiles as he received plaques, certificated, commemorative badges, official shirts and hats. He was extra delighted with a ride in the sheriff car complete with lights and sirens. Mr. Brewer is a long time friend with each that enters into the building. He is a talented singer, pianist and devout Christian. We are so grateful to all those who attended and all those who made this an extraordinary day.
The cover card winners for the week were Buford Insco, Barry Flowers (twice), Harriet Frazier, Eddie Nunn and Lessie Long. Our one-line bingo game was a great surprise with 75 cents going to each participant. We have had wonderful crowds at our bingo games, and many people helping bring this activity forward. Thank you all for your help.
The winners of ring toss were Vivian Edwards in first and Lessie Long as runner-up. The game was very challenging, and everyone brought their A game. Vivian Edwards also grabbed victory with Strike out! Her second place finisher was Mary Klutts. The game was extremely difficult and these two ladies were the sole point scorers. Frances Hicks stole the show at the basketball shootout. She finished with 11 baskets. Runners-up were Vivian Edwards and Violet Morris.
Our craft session was a huge success. The residents joined together to color from a variety of apple pictures. Everyone did spectacular and many unique creations were developed. The apple posters really compliment our monthly Johnny Appleseed theme.
The First United Methodist Church was with us on Tuesday afternoon. They had a wonderful crowd of church members and residents. The spectacular music spread throughout the room and down the hall delighting all that heard. They are so kind and generous by providing regular church services for our residents. Thank you all.
The residents gathered on Wednesday afternoon for popcorn and a movie. The residents enjoyed their hot, fresh treat alongside the movie “Mousehunt.” On Friday, we held our weekly social hour. Everyone was thrilled with a sweet treat of decorative petit fours. The delicious sweet mini cakes were also beautiful. We served ice cold milk along with the snack.
More than 25 residents attended our Sunday afternoon singing with Friends of Carmen Kelley. They are extremely talented and do a terrific job. Our residents are always left bragging about them and waiting for their next appearance. Liberty Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church conducted our Sunday morning church services. Our residents are so grateful for their continued support and generous giving of time and spiritual growth. Thank you all so much for allowing the ease of worship.
Second Wind Dreams have been active in our facility this week. The residents are very excited to see the gifts rolling in for those lucky enough to have their name drawn. We are so grateful to the Dresden Pilot Club for making this and so many other wonderful activities happen. If you would like to get involved and make a wish come true, please give me a call.
