Devilettes pad stellar record with triumph vs. Union City
Winning pitcher Haley McKinney struck out nine in three no-hit innings and helped herself with a pair of base knocks to lead South Fulton over Union City 10-1 in middle school softball action Monday afternoon at Graham Park.

The Devilettes improved their already-stellar record to 17-1 with the victory.

In other games from the diamond Monday that were reported to The Messenger, Lake Road swept a twinbill from Lake County, winning 11-0 and then 13-10, while Black Oak topped Hillcrest 16-3.

The five Obion County School System teams (Union City not included) will wrap up regular season play this week before participating in the group’s postseason tournament on Saturday at Obion County Central.

Top seed South Fulton will receive a bye into the semifinals and face the winner of an 11:30 a.m. matchup between No. 4 Black Oak and No. 5 Hillcrest at 2:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Lake Road and Ridgemont will square off at 1 p.m. in the other semifinal matchup.

The finals of the tournament are set for 4 p.m.

The following is a recap of Monday’s games.

South Fulton 10, Union City 1

Kaci Daugherty also had two hits as SF banged out eight altogether in romping past the Lady Tornadoes.

Taylor Archie, Sara Reams, Jennifer Allen and Lexi Johnson also had singles for the victors. Archie came on in relief of McKinney in the fourth to finish up the pitching chores and gave up the Twisters’ only

On the Union City side, Sadie Hollis fanned seven and had the Lady Twisters’ lone hit. She also scored UC’s only run.

South Fulton is scheduled to play host to Lake County today, before wrapping up its regular season with a return date vs. Union City Thursday on the Devilettes’ turf.

Union City is now 6-3 on the season.

LR 11-13, Lake Co. 0-10

The Lady Generals improved to 14-6 by taking both ends of twinbill vs. Lake County.

Brandi Goodman and Carly Whipple each scored three runs in the opener with three hits apiece. Laura
Beth Shelton stroked two singles, a double and scored twice, while winning pitcher Macy Allison had
three RBI and fanned eight Lady Falcon batters.

Brittany Dodd singled twice and plated a run, Whitney Dodd doubled and had a ribbie, and Alex Wilson,
Payton Robertson and Charity Howard each singled and crossed the pay station.

In Game 2, Goodman plated three tallies with a triple and a double, Robertson doubled twice and had two RBI and Amanda Bell had two hits, two runs and drove home two. Wilson, Whipple and McKenna Stephenson each scored two runs and Morgan Kemp drove in one and tallied one. Magen Gargus also scored.

Wilson struck out five in notching the pitching triumph.

Lake Road next plays Hillcrest Thursday.

Black Oak 16, Hillcrest 3

Chelsie Pitts was the star for the Lady Eagles with two hits, five RBI and the pitching victory.

Olivia Ferguson went 2-for-3 with three runs driven in for the victors, while Callie Johnson had two hits in four trips with a pair of ribbies.

Black Oak improved to 2-6 with the triumph.

Brittany McEwen, Hailey Orr and Ashlyn Runions all reached with one single for Hillcrest, which was coming off its first two victories of the season last week against Humboldt.

Julianne Albright took the pitching loss for the Lady Cougars.

Hillcrest (2-9) returns to action with a doubleheader Thursday against Lake Road at Trojan Park in Troy.
