Devils a leg-up on Fulton City
Don’t tell South Fulton fans that Thursday’s middle school game against Fulton City wasn’t as important as tonight’s high school game.

Montre Lewis and Khiry Lewis each rushed for a pair of touchdowns as the Red Devils reeled off a 34-0 blanking of the Bulldogs in the jayvee showdown of Twin-Cities teams.

The win puts the Red Devils at a mark of 3-0.

In other junior high action from Thursday night, Lake Road shut out Ridgemont 14-0 while Black Oak bettered Hillcrest 14-6.

The following is a roundup of those games reported to The Messenger.

So. Fulton 34, Fulton City 0

The Red Devils scored early and often en route to the shutout.

Montre Lewis sprinted to paydirt twice in the first quarter on runs of 60 yards and 44 yards, while Khiry Lewis crossed into the endzone twice in the second period on dashes of 27 and five yards.

In the third period, Jaquay Garmon connected with Blake Boley on a pass play that covered 13 yards for SF’s final TD of the evening.

Garmon also took in a pair of two-point conversions.

Overall, Montre Lewis finished the night with nine carries and 156 yards with Khiry Lewis tacking on an additional 77 rushing yards off seven touches.

Defensively, Cody Neace and Shaquan Brown both recorded four tackles.

The Red Devils next play on Sept. 13 at home against Hillcrest.

Lake Road 14, Ridgemont 0

The Generals (1-2) took their first win of the season with touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters.

Lake Road’s Tanner Cary slipped in from four yards out in the second with Jacob Van Cleave converting the two-point attempt.

Van Cleave found paydirt on his own in the fourth quarter with a three-yard TD.

For Ridgemont, Micah Watts rushed for 42 yards on 13 carries in the loss with teammate Michael
Hussey finishing the night with nine touches and 39 yards.

Lake Road returns to action Tuesday vs. Three Oaks at South Fulton.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs return to the field Thursday against Hillcrest at South Fulton.

Black Oak 14, Hillcrest 6

The Eagles improved their on-campus home record to 2-0 and their overall mark to 2-1 by holding off the Cougars.

Jake Quinn hauled in a pass from Tanner Miller on the last play of the first half and reversed his field on the way to a 12-yard touchdown to key BO’s Thursday triumph.

Mikey Thompson rushed for 82 yards and a conversion and Tanner Miller tacked on 72 yards and a TD for the winners. Tight-end/wide receiver Zach Blakley was credited with several key blocks.

Miller ended up with a team-high 10 tackles, while Christopher Douglas added six stops including one for loss and a sack. Austin Choate had two big stops behind the line.

For Hillcrest (0-2) Chanse Robbins ran for 67 yards and a TD, while Bubba Smith accumulated 43 yards on five carries.

Nathan Ashley led the Cougar defenders with eight tackles, while Robbins had seven and both Trent Mann and Austin Pitts six each.

Both teams play again next Thursday, Black Oak at Fulton City, and Hillcrest vs. Ridgemont at South Fulton.
