JUST A SLICE — Blake Sowell, 17, son of Barry Sowell of Union City and a senior at Obion County Central High School, cut a slice of pecan pie for a customer at Troy Pecan Festival on Saturday at City Park. Waiting to help to do his part for the OCCHS culinary class project was Jimmy Riley, 17, son of David and Donna Riley of Troy. He is also a senior. A pecan cook off was held during the festival, with the entries sold as a whole pie or by the slice to raise money so the Troy Merchants Association can continue to provide flowers around the square. Winners included in the 18 and younger pie category: first — Tyler Fluty, second — Jimmy Riley and third — Jerrion Webster; 18 and younger other category: first — Megan Hawthorne, second — Katie Jones and third — Jerrion Webster; 18 and older pie category: first — Rob Adcock, second — Patricia Elliott and third — Ann Ashley; and 18 and older other category: first — Theresa Parmenter. OCCHS students were also able to participate in a poster contest. Winners were Olivia Grady, Andrew Heuck and Tommy Borlen.
