Posted: Friday, July 15, 2011 8:01 pm
A new enforcement initiative is under way by the Kentucky State Police in Mayfield, Ky. Troopers began the “TACT” high visibility enforcement program. “TACT” stands for Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks. This enforcement mobilization focuses specifically on the reduction of commercial motor vehicle collisions. “TACT” runs through the end of August and is being carried out on roadways which have a high volume of commercial vehicle traffic. During this time, troopers will be working extended hours on designated roadways in an effort to observe for moving hazardous violations committed by cars around trucks, trucks around trucks and trucks around other motor vehicles. These hazardous violations include speeding, DUI, following another vehicle too closely, reckless driving, careless driving and improper lane use. Each of these violations has a direct correlation to crash rates. Due to the vehicles involved, these crashes often turn deadly. As always, citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting dangerous driving behavior to the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
