Neil Shanklin

Neil Shanklin, 89, of Latham, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Weakley County Rehab & Nursing Center, Dresden.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, Latham with Bro. Bob Copeland officiating. Burial was in New Hope Church Cemetery with Bowlin Funeral Home of Dresden in charge of the arrangements.

Steve Shanklin, Paul Shanklin, David Shanklin, Matthew Shanklin, Neil Allen and Dick Hutcherson served as pallbearers.

Shanklin was born Jan. 18, 1023 in Latham, son of the late Irvin Allen and Idis Adellia Carr Shanklin. He was a World War II Army veteran in the Horse Cavalry. He was the widower of Lula Mae Hutcherson Shanklin. He was head of maintenance for Ferry Morse Seed Company, a farmer and a member of Palmersville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Dianne) Shanklin of Dresden and Barton Shanklin of Macomb, Ill.; two sister, Marye Lou Connaughton of Naperville, Ill. and Robbie Neil (Walter) Makous of Birmingham, Ala.; 1 grandson, Steven Neil (Michelle) Shanklin of Martin; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Grace Shanklin, Sydney Claire Shanklin and Andrew Asa Shanklin.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Freddie Shanklin; four brothers, Boyse Shanklin, Layne Shanklin, Hale Shanklin and J. C. Shanklin.
