The Messenger, January 16, 2013
Completed arrangements are being announced for Florence (Barrett) Reed, 89, of Gleason, who died Jan. 10, 2013, at Union City Manor.
Services were held at First Baptist Church in Gleason, with the Rev. Kenny Carr officiating, assisted by the Revs. Eddie Mallonee and Keith Sumner. Burial followed in Everett’s Chapel Cemetery in McKenzie. Williams Funeral Home of Gleason was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Reed was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Buggy Neck, Va., to Walter and Mary Hampton Barrett. She worked for 26 years as a Henry I. Siegel payroll secretary, having begun her career in Washington, D.C., as a secretary in the Pentagon. Florence moved to Tennessee in 1946. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gleason.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Wendell I. Reed; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Reed) and Melton LeRoy Segraves; two grandchildren and their spouses, Chad Neal and Leslie Segraves of Chattanooga and Carrie-Ann (Segraves) and Clay Hogan of Memphis. Mrs. Reed is proud of her four surviving great-grandchildren, Ivy Hogan, David Hogan III, Joeli Neal Segraves and Eden Neal Segraves, and of Joy Neal Segraves, who preceded her in death.
