Obion Central’s home District 13AA basketball twinbill against Haywood scheduled for tonight has been postponed.
Inclement weather to the south kept Haywood County schools out of session today, and reportedly no extracurricular activities are permitted in such cases.
No makeup date has been set.
Tonight’s West Carroll at Gleason District 13A doubleheader was also postponed.
The scheduled games pitting Union City at Lake County and South Fulton hosting Trenton tonight were still on as of presstime.
County junior highs
set to begin tourney
The Obion County School System middle school basketball tournament will tip off Thursday night with two games pitting the fourth and fifth seeds in both boys’ and girls’ brackets.
No. 4 Black Oak will take on No. 5 Ridgemont in the girls’ game at 6 p.m., followed by fourth seed BO and fifth seed Lake Road in the boys’ game at 7:30.
Those two winners will advance to a four-game Saturday session against the top-seeded teams. LR is the No. 1 seed in girls’ play and will be in action at 6 p.m., while South Fulton tops the boys’ field and will play at 7:30.
The other two games will see No. 1 vs. No. 3 — South Fulton vs. Hillcrest in girls at 3 p.m. and Hillcrest vs. Ridgemont in boys at 4:30 p.m.
The championship games will be played Monday at 6 and 7:30 p.m..
The three-night, eight-game event will be held at Obion County Central High School.
UTM’s Hughes makes
senior game roster
Montori Hughes, a senior defensive lineman at UT Martin, will play in the Raycom Football All-Star Classic in Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Hughes, who transferred to UTM from Tennessee, finished the regular season with 42 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, four sacks and 13 quarterback hurries.
The Murfreesboro native was named to The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS second team All-America defensive squad, the All-Ohio Valley Conference first-team defense and the Phil Steele FCS first-team All-American team.
Senior wide receiver Quentin Sims is also reportedly set to play in the game.
The head coach of the Stars team will be Jim Bates, a 17-year defensive coach. The Stripes team will be coached by former NFL coach and Super Bowl winner Dan Reeves.
The game has a television contract with CBS Sports.
