Helen Crouson Walton, 89, of Trimble died Jan. 13, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble First Baptist Church, with Dr. William P. Oakley, Robert Ell Hurt and the Rev. David Bartholomew officiating. Interment will follow in Pierce Cemetery in Trimble.
Pallbearers will be Gary Houston, Donnie Walton, Michael Walton, Brad Walton, Gerald Emerson, Eddie West, Tim Partin and Tim Williams. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Crouson.
Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. today at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern.
The family requests memorials be made to Trimble First Baptist Church, Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope, the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Obion County, daughter of the late Jimmy Lee Crouson and the late Josie Nevil Crouson. She was a retired third-grade teacher from Trimble School, where she taught for many years; received the honor of Teacher of the Year from the Dyer County School System in 1975-76; was a member of Trimble First Baptist Church since 1938; and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Sorority.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Reed Walton Sr. of Trimble; her son, Reed Walton Jr. and his wife Denice of Humboldt; her daughter, Charlotte Hampton of Union City; two sisters, Dorothy West of Trimble and Bettye Jo King of Kenton; four grandchildren, William Hampton of Memphis and Zac Walton, Samantha Walton and Sydnee Walton, all of Humboldt.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Crouson and Harry Crouson; two sisters, Edith Hammonds and Opal Bell; and a son-in-law, Bill Hampton.
