Ex-Rebel Robertson leads Riverside again

Jeff Robertson is giving the Riverside football program another shot.
Robertson, an Obion County native who played at both Obion County Central and UT Martin, will begin his second tour of duty as the head football coach at Riverside this fall.
The current athletic director at the Decatur County school, he was reportedly approved unanimously to be the Panthers’ new football coach Thursday night, succeeding Joel Goff.
A 1983 graduate of OCCHS, Robertson has already served one stint as head football coach at Riverside — from 2000-02. In those three seasons, the Panthers posted a 19-15 record.
He left that position to become the first-ever head football coach at Liberty. In their first four seasons — from 2003-06 — the Crusaders went 15-25 under Robertson’s guidance.
Before becoming a head coach for the first time in ’02, Robertson had been an assistant coach at several stops, including for Jim Glover at Humboldt, Jim Hardegree at both Jackson Northside and Lambuth and Tommy Browder at McNairy Central. Robertson has also coached in Texas and Mississippi.
Goff had succeeded Robertson at the Riverside post following the 2002 campaign and had compiled a 66-60 record during 10 seasons. The Panthers went 4-6 last season, missing the Class 2A state playoffs.
