UCMS boys make quick recovery

Union City bounced back from just its second loss of the season one night earlier with a 45-20 victory over Three Oaks in middle school basketball Tuesday night.
The Golden Tornadoes, who’d dropped a two-point decision to South Fulton on Monday after handily defeating the Red Devils earlier in the season, did not allow a first quarter point Tuesday in improving to 11-2 on the season and 6-1 in West Tennessee Athletic Conference games.
UC’s girls also rebounded from a Monday night defeat vs. SF, pitching a first-half shutout (19-0) in winning for the seventh time in eight WTAC outings with a 36-15 triumph.
In other games Tuesday, Black Oak and Ridgemont split, the BO girls winning 31-20, and the R’mont boys coming out on top 56-34. Martin beat Lake Road twice, 42-17 in Game 1 and 64-12 in the nightcap.
The following is a recap of those games reported to the Messenger.
UC 45, Three Oaks 20 (B)
The Tornadoes led 10-0 after one, 16-7 at halftime and 29-10 with three quarters in the book.
Quentrail Polk poured in a game-best 17 points to pace Union City, while Willaevion Burton chipped in with eight. Jeremy Bumpus had six points.
UC 36, Three Oaks 15 (G)
The Lady Twisters (8-7 overall) led 9-0 after one and 19-0 at the intermission, then cruised.
Alivia Bishop had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Chynia Hyde finished with eight points and 10 boards for the victors.
Tykesha Vaughn scored 10 and Chante DeBerry had six markers and eight caroms.
Union City hosts Lake County on Thursday.
BO 31, Ridgemont 20 (G)
Nellina Wooten had another stellar outing with 19 points, six steals and five rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles to their fifth victory of the season.
A 17-6 third-quarter surge broke open a tight one-point game at the half for Black Oak.
Trisha Schmidt added six points and seven rebounds to the winning cause.
McClay Ferrell led Ridgemont with nine points while Carley Bramlett added six.
Ridgemont 56, BO 34 (B)
Dalton Bridgewater led a balanced scoring effort for the Mustangs with 10 points and teammates Cody Little and Jay Lee Hobbs each tallied eight markers.
R’mont jumped to a 20-10 first-quarter lead and was up 30-20 at the half. A 17-6 flurry in the third stanza secured the outcome.
Brandon Swift and Jonathan Davis both scored eight points and Remington Rudd added seven for Black Oak. Swift also had seven rebounds.
Ridgemont plays at Paris Inman on Thursday, while Black Oak visits Fulton County the same night.
Martin 42, LR 17 (G)
A scoreless first period put the Lady Generals in an immediate hole and Martin was firmly in control with a 30-5 halftime lead.
Bryleigh Jennings led Lake Road with seven points.
Jenna Smith had six steals, while both Lindsey Craddock and Dharma Grinder each came up with four takeaways.
Martin 64, LR 12 (B)
The Generals remain in search of their first victory after being overwhelmed by Martin.
Collin Terry had eight of Lake Road’s 12 points.
LR hosts Hillcrest on Thursday.
