Tennessee dismisses
football freshman trio

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee defensive back Deion Bonner, and defensive linemen Omari Phillips and Trent Taylor are no longer with the football program.
Their departures were first reported Tuesday by the Knoxville News-Sentinel and were confirmed by athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton.
All three players were freshmen this season.

Fair returning
as UT coach

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Former Tennessee defensive back and first-round draft pick Terry Fair is returning to his alma mater as part of new Volunteers coach Butch Jones’ support staff.
Fair was a four-year starter at Tennessee from 1994-97 and went to the Detroit Lions with the 20th overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. He spent six seasons in the NFL with the Lions, Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams. Fair will fill a defensive quality control position on Jones’ staff.
Jones announced the addition of 12 support staff members Monday.
The list of new hires also includes recruiting director J.R. Sandlin, who has spent the last three seasons as part of Alabama’s recruiting staff. Eight of the support staff members previously worked with Jones at Cincinnati.
