Dresden seeks TDOT grant for Green Rail
By BRAD GASKINS
News Editor
DRESDEN — The Dresden City Board voted Monday night to apply for a Tennessee Department of Transportation Grant to help pay for walking trail improvements along the city’s Green Rail Trail.
It is a $500,000 grant, of which the city’s contribution would be $100,000.
Last year, about 100 cities across the state applied for the grant. Twenty were awarded.
In other actions from the meeting, the board:
• Approved an ordinance to rezone from R-1 (low density residential) to B-3 (highway oriented business) property owned by Richard Mansfield and located on East Main Street.
• Adopted a resolution to accept from Fred’s a donation of $275.97 to the Dresden Fire Department and $275.97 to the Dresden Police Department.
• Heard complaints from four Dresden residents concerning the city’s new garbage and recycling program.
“We’ll continue to study and work with the citizens and Barker Brothers as we go through these situations to make sure that we try to make it as smooth as possible,” Dresden Mayor Danny Forrester said.
“Tonight, there were five complaints that were brought up by four different people, and three of the complaints didn’t have anything to do with recycling.”
One complaint was that the driver of the garbage truck left garbage from containers on the lawns of residents.
“That should not be happening at any time,” Forrester said. “We will be addressing those issues.”
In other news from the meeting:
The Dresden Police Department reported that it issued 110 citations from November 16 to December 15, 2012.
A total of $11,625 was collected from those citations. Published in The WCP 1.8.13
