UTM women’s game
has tip-off moved

Tip-off for the UT Martin women’s basketball game against Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay on Monday has been set for 5:30 p.m. Elam Center.
The game was originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off. However, the change will allow fans to enjoy the football national championship game, according to a release from the school’s sports information department.
The UTM women will host Murray State Saturday prior to the men playing Austin Peay.

Bland finds spot
on Trenton staff

As was speculated immediately after he was fired from the head football coaching job at Humboldt, Dan Bland has been hired as an assistant to Joe Gaddis at Trenton.
Bland told The Messenger the day he was unceremoniously let go from the Viking post on Nov. 26 that he’d likely land with his longtime friend at Peabody. The two have coached together at several stops, including at Tullahoma, Farrugut and in Mississippi.
Gaddis said in a conversation with the paper today that he was unsure what coaching responsibilities Bland would have with the Tide.
Junior Reid, a former star player and longtime middle school coach, was named Humboldt’s new head coach, replacing Bland.

Vol NG McCullers
says ‘no’ to NFL

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee nose guard Daniel McCullers is returning to school for his senior season rather than entering the NFL Draft.
McCullers made the announcement via Twitter and Facebook.
McCullers, listed at 6-foot-8 and 360 pounds, made 39 total tackles and 51⁄2 tackles for loss this season.
Tennessee is expected to return 10 defensive players who made at least six starts in 2012. The Volunteers gave up the most points (35.7) and yards (471.3) per game of any Southeastern Conference team this season.

Tennessee trio
tabbed for bowl

Tennessee seniors Ben Bartholomew, Zach Rogers and Prentiss Waggner have all been invited to play in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic.
The game will be played at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Jan. 19 and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network at 2 p.m.
