Lady Yellowjackets, Martin boys remain perfect after county split

Greenfield Middle School girls’ basketball team is off to perfect start at 6-0 after beating Martin by a pair of buckets on Thursday night and getting a win over West Carroll on Tuesday night.
The Martin boys are also perfect at 2-0 on the young season after beating Greenfield in Thursday’s nightcap.
Girls
Greenfield 49, WC 10
The Lady Yellowjackets had very little trouble getting past West Carroll on Tuesday, soundly beating the host school by 39 points.
Greenfield held a commanding 27-1 lead by the end of the first half. West Carroll was held scoreless in the second period.
The Lady War Eagles did manage to put up seven points in the third period, but by then it far too late for a comeback.
Greenfield was led by Kyndal Wiley, Bentley Gordon and Liz Smith with eight points each. Kinlee Moore scored seven and fifth-grader Chloe Moore added five.
Greenfield 28, Martin 24
The Lady Yellowjackets had a much tougher test on Thursday when they traveled to Martin to take on the Lady Panthers.
Greenfield took the early lead on Kinlee Moore’s two-pointer, but Chesney Ross answered with a deuce and Heidi Craddock gave Martin a 5-4 lead on her three-point shot. Greenfield ended the period with a 9-5 lead after Wiley scored five straight points.
The Lady Panthers pulled to within one on Tasia Jones’ bucket to make it 10-9, but a bucket by Gordon and a three-point play by Moore made 15-9 at the half.
Six points by Jordyn Green and five by Jones made it a one-point game at the end of the third with the Lady ’Jackets leading 21-20
Cadie McAlister made it a three-point contest on her bucket to start the final period, but Charlyce Davis got Martin back to within a point on her two-pointer.
A technical foul on the Lady Panthers for having six players on the floor gave Greenfield a free shot, which Moore made.
Wiley made it a two-possession game with 10.6 seconds to play when she hit both of her free throws. Her shots secured the win for Greenfield.
Martin is now 1-1 on the season.
Boys
Martin 55, Greenfield 30
The Panthers jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and went on the beat the Yellowjackets by 23 points in Thursday’s nightcap.
Greenfield could not stop Martin seventh-grader Matt McMillan. He hit five shots from behind the arc and led all scorers with 19 points. All of his points came in the first half. He scored 11 consecutive points at one juncture in the first half.
Martin led 16-9 at the end of the opening period and 35-16 by halftime. The Panthers made it a 20-point game by the end of the third period.
Jackson Crouse led Greenfield in scoring with 11 points. He scored eight of his 11 in the final period. Levi Dees had seven and Jacob Lewis added five for the ‘Jackets.
Ty Kelly scored nine and Ryan Sams added seven for the Panthers. Martin had nine players score.
Monday’s Game
Martin 36, Gleason 33 (G)
Lydia Pritchett scored 10 points as the Lady Panthers rallied from a first-quarter deficit to win.
Tasia Jones added seven points for Martin.
Gleason jumped out to an 11-3 lead after one quarter, but Martin pulled within 20-18 by halftime.
Martin then overtook Gleason in the second half, up 28-25 after three. Published in The WCP 10.30.12
