Child charged in assault

A Union City child was charged with assault through a juvenile court petition after allegedly striking a teacher at Union City Elementary School.
The 11-year-old boy was charged Thursday morning with assault on a school official and was released to his mother, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The incident allegedly occurred Wednesday afternoon in a hallway near the office area at the school at 1100 South Miles Ave. in Union City.
Police reported the juvenile allegedly assaulted a female teacher by punching her in the side with his fist, apparently after she had reprimanded him for a minor infraction. The teacher sustained minor injury and was reported to have received a bruise.
