St. John’s Community Services-CDS in 56th annual Telethon of Stars
Martin-based St. John’s Community Services-CDS will be the Tennessee beneficiary of the 56th Annual Lions Club/WPSD Local 6 Telethon of Stars — set for Nov. 10-11 at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah, Ky.
St. John’s Community Services-CDS is the former Community Developmental Services.
This year’s 56th Telethon of Stars will begin at 10 p.m. Nov. 10 and end at 1 p.m. Nov. 11. Celebrated country icons Steel Magnolia, a capella group Ball in the House, “Days of our Lives” star Shawn Christian, gospel singer Eric Horner and blues band Lew Jetton & 61 South will perform, along with many other talented national and local artists.
This year, St. John’s Community Services-CDS will use the generous donations from the telethon to continue to provide learning opportunities, community activities and comfortable homes for people with disabilities and hire a much-needed nurse to help tend to a number of medically frail people SJCS-CDS supports.
A large portion of SJCS-CDS funding comes from state and local government, which simply cannot cover the costs to support people with disabilities with the quality services they deserve, a spokesman said.
Donations from the telethon help to bridge the gap and provide quality opportunities for people with disabilities.
St. John’s Community Services-CDS may be a new name to the community, but it is a steadfast organization with a long history of supporting people with disabilities in residential, employment and day services in the mainstream of the community. The spokesman said the agency supports over 600 people with disabilities in four states, including over 110 people at SJCS-CDS.
Currently, SJCS-CDS provides support to 35 people in Weakley County, 43 people in Obion County, 17 people in Henry County and 16 people in Carroll County.
Learn more about SJCS-CDS online at www.sjcs.org.
All donations made in Tennessee will benefit adults with disabilities supported by SJCS-CDS. Checks should be made payable and mailed directly to Paducah Lions Club Telethon, c/o Independence Bank, P.O. Box 966, Paducah, KY 42002-0966. Donations may also be made online at www.TelethonofStars.org.
