Martin sweeps; Greenfield, Dresden pick up wins

Middle school basketball has began across the county with Greenfield girls and Dresden boys picking up wins to start the season.
The Lady Yellowjackets got a 52-12 verdict over Bradford on Thursday, and the Lions got past McKenzie 55-31, also on Thursday.
Martin then swept Sharon on Monday night’s schedule, winning 50-22 in the girls’ game and 52-24 in the boys’ contest.
Martin 50, Sharon 22
Jordyn Green scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers.
Tasia Jones added 12 points and had seven steals, while Heidi Craddock scored nine for Martin.
Martin pulled out to an 18-6 after one quarter and continued to add to the difference, up 28-10 at the half and 36-14 after three frames.
Martin 52, Sharon 24
Ty Kelly pumped in 21 points and Matt McMillan added 11 points for the Panthers, who jumped out to a 24-13 halftime advantage.
Paul Richmond scored 11 points, and both Greg Davis and James Vaughn added six each for Sharon.
G’field 52, Bradford 12
Greenfield dominated Bradford by outscoring the Lady Red Devils 29-7 in the first half and then 23-5 in the second half. The Lady ’Jackets held Bradford to two points in the second and third periods.
Kinlee Moore paced the Lady ’Jackets with 19 points. Liz Smith was second in scoring with nine and Chloe Moore added six.
Bradford was led in scoring by Myiel Price with four.
Greenfield has a full slate of games this week against Dresden, West Carroll and at Martin.
Dresden 55, McKenzie 31
Dresden jumped out to a commanding lead in the first half against McKenzie by outscoring the Rebels 13-2 in the first quarter and had a 20 point lead at the half by a score of 25-5.
McKenzie tried to make a comeback by scoring 20 points in the third period, but the Lions stood fast and put up 21 points of their own in the period.
Dresser Winn led all scorers for the Lions with 22. Jordan Mitchell added 12 to give the Lions two players in double figures. Quincey McDonald popped in seven and Cade Rodgers had four.
The Rebels were led in scoring by Paul Watkins with 11.
