| Breast cancer awareness month has OCCHS group thinking pink |

Obion County and Union City are thinking pink.
Friday will be Pink Out Day in Obion County in support of breast cancer awareness.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month nationwide and pink is the signature color of breast cancer awareness.
Obion County Central High School’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is sponsoring Pink Out Day Friday. Club members recently sold over 1,000 pink shirts in Obion County and Union City, with $1 from each shirt sale donated to Hometown Walk of Hope.
The pink shirts — which were offered with logos for both the OC Rebels and the UC Tornadoes — will be worn by employees at several local businesses, including banks, hospitals, doctor’s offices, schools and more. Participants are being asked to send photos afterward by email to OCCHS teacher and HOSA sponsor Michelle Johnston at mjohnston@k12tn.net.
OCCHS’ football stadium will be “pinked out” for the last home game Friday night and those attending are being asked to wear pink. There will be the release of 100 pink balloons and a moment of silence at halftime. The names of loved ones will be placed on the balloons during the first half of the game.
A reception will also be held after halftime of the OC game for any breast cancer survivor, patient or family member of those who have succumbed, and organizers also want to honor all medical professionals who work with cancer patients.
“HOSA appreciates all the community support from all who bought a T-shirt,” OCCHS HOSA president Zach Tucker, a senior, said. “Words simply do not express the excitement we feel as we present a check for over $1,000 to our Hometown Walk of Hope for our breast cancer patients and families. We never know when one of our very own family members may need assistance, and anything we can do to help is what OCCHS HOSA is about.”
