UT Martin atop rodeo regional

Posted: Friday, October 19, 2012 12:01 pm

After just three Ozark Region rodeos (Missouri Valley, Murray State and the University of West Alabama), the UT Martin men’s team sits atop the regional standings with 2,425 points. Missouri Valley College is second with 1,395 points.
UT Martin head coach John Luthi will tell you two things. “We have a long way to go, and we are competing well, but we still have things we need to work on.”
UT Martin piled up 875 points at the University of West Alabama this past weekend to win its third consecutive rodeo of the season and add to its huge lead in the regional standings.
Matt Smith won the bull riding first go and the average to give UT Martin points in the rough stock event. Ty Hughston won the second go and the average in the saddle bronc.
Tyler Waltz split fourth and fifth in the bareback first go and then finished third in the second go. Waltz was third in the average.
UT Martin picked up a bulk of its points in the timed events — tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping.
Jordan Thrasher and Will Lummus picked up points in the tie down roping. Thrasher was fifth in the first go, while Lummus was second in the first go.
John Alley was sixth in the steer wrestling short go and sixth in the average. Lummus also worked the steer wrestling. He was first in the first go; third in the short go and split first and second in the average.
Clay Mitchell and Lane Mitchell split fourth and fifth in the team roping first go, while Ben Walker and Zack Mabery, from Troy University, split fourth and fifth in the first go. Published in The WCP 10.18.12
