| Weakley County man awaits return to UC after brutal stabbing |

A Weakley County man should be returned to Obion County this week to face an attempted murder charge in the brutal stabbing of a Union City woman.
Willie James Walker III, 25, of 215 Poplar St., Greenfield, was arrested Friday afternoon in Weakley County and is being held on unrelated charges here.
Union City police have issued warrants charging Walker with attempted first-degree murder and felony motor vehicle theft — charges which stem from Thursday night’s attack of Christina Jimerson, 27, at her home at 611 North Division St., Union City.
Ms. Jimerson sustained multiple stab wounds and was airlifted to Regional Medical Center (the Med) in Memphis, where she was in critical condition Friday and had undergone several hours of surgery, according to acting Union City Police Chief Perry Barfield.
Police went to Ms. Jimerson’s North Division Street home about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in response to a 911 call from a neighbor who heard screaming coming from the residence. Union City police investigator Susan Andrews said the seriously injured Ms. Jimerson was able to bang on a window, which broke, in order to be heard by a neighbor.
When Union City police officers arrived, they could hear a woman screaming that she had been stabbed. Officers forced their way into the home, where they found Ms. Jimerson bleeding from apparent stab wounds, Barfield said.
Neighbors also witnessed an unidentified black man run from the apartment before officers arrived. They reportedly saw the man get into Ms. Jimerson’s silver 1997 Toyota and leave the scene. Police alerted surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle, which was recovered early Friday morning in Greenfield in Weakley County.
Mrs. Andrews said Greenfield and Martin police departments and 911 were extremely helpful during the investigation, which resulted in Walker being identified as a suspect Friday. Greenfield police located Walker after discovering there were warrants against him in Weakley County for unrelated charges of domestic violence and failure to appear, and Union City police now have a hold on him for the two charges there.
The investigator said Walker was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Weakley County for the charges there and, if he made bond, Union City police would be notified due to their hold on him. Mrs. Andrews said Walker should be returned to Obion County for arraignment on the attempted murder and theft charges within the next day or two.
The Union City stabbing remains under investigation, and investigators at the Union City Police Department were still sorting through evidence Monday.
Police have not yet been able to speak with Ms. Jimerson due to the serious extent of her injuries and investigators are still trying to determine how many stab wounds she sustained. Mrs. Andrews said Ms. Jimerson sustained several stab wounds to her face and torso, with the most serious injuries including a punctured lung, injuries to an eye and the loss of an index finger, apparently a defensive wound during her attack.
Mrs. Andrews said the attack occurred at Ms. Jimerson’s home while only she and Walker were there, and police are still trying to determine the nature of their relationship. She said Ms. Jimerson apparently had known Walker for about a year, but police are continuing to investigate and are examining all information being received.
