PROJECT COMPLETED
PROJECT COMPLETED
State and local officials took part in a ribbon cutting Wednesday afternoon for the completion of a $6.4 million project that created a diamond interchange off of State Route 22 to connect to Everett-Stewart Regional Airport, which serves the Obion and Weakley County areas. The project, located at the Shaffner Road exit, facilitates the expansion of industry and increases safety by providing better access to the airport. Among those taking part in the ceremony were Lyndsay Botts, chief of staff for transportation commissioner John Schroer; Blake A. Swaggart with the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development; and Jo Ann Speer, airport manager. “The official opening of Schaffner Road — which offers direct access from Highway 22 to Everett-Stewart Regional Airport — is one more opportunity to help promote economic development to our area, not only Obion and Weakley counties but the northwest Tennessee region,” Mrs. Speer said. “This comes about 11⁄2 years after the completion of the runway extension. We continue to gain statewide recognition and support and we’re very appreciative of that.”
