Ridgemont takes win
into county tourney

Ridgemont will enter the Obion County Middle School Softball Tournament on a winning note after beating South Fulton 7-5 Wednesday in a makeup game.
Winning pitcher Marissa French, Macy Muirhead and Bethany Gardner all doubled for the victors, Gardner’s two-bagger knocking in the deciding runs in the fourth. Caryl Bramlett and Laura King added singles to the R’mont cause.
French fanned seven in picking up the victory.
South Fulton was plagued by five errors that led to four unearned runs.
Abby Fulcher had two hits, including a double for the Devilettes, while Summer Britt knocked in a pair of runs.
Emma Glisson was charged with the pitching loss, though just two of the four runs she surrendered in three innings were earned. Macie Lester finished up in the circle with one earned run allowed.
Both teams will participate in the aforementioned county tourney on Saturday at Obion County Central High School. Brackets for the event will be finalized today.

Pop’s best team
fires 9-under total

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 9-under par.
Members of the winning team included Ron Cooper, Clint Damron, Kyle Alexander, Mike Revell and Houston Haag.
Finishing in second at 6-under par was the team Rick Smith, Robert Huffstutter, Matt Russell, Justin Alexander, Adam White; and the team of Tommy Lemons, Bart Lemons, Ken Courtwright, Raymond Hendrix and Jeff Stone.
It was the final men’s scramble of the year.

St. Louis to start
Ballpark Village

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals anticipate breaking ground on Ballpark Village, long delayed by the economic downturn, in mid-November.
The $100 million first phase of the development is scheduled for completion by opening day in 2014. The announcement Tuesday followed approval by the Missouri Development Finance Board, one of the final steps in the approval process.
Team president William DeWitt III called it a “significant milestone in a long journey to make Ballpark Village a reality.”
