Local teams pile on plenty of runs

Hillcrest, Ridgemont and Union City were all winners Monday in middle school softball action.
Hillcrest blanked Lake Road 12-0, R’mont beat LR 13-4 and UC thumped Lake County 14-2.
The following are highlights from those games reported to The Messenger.
Hillcrest 12, Lake Rd. 0
In a makeup contest played at Obion County Central High School, the Lady Cougars improved to 10-5.
Lauren Ivy went 3-for-4 and Hanna Fulbright had three hits in three at-bats to pace the victors offensively.
McClain Bell, Mari Hanna Short, Audrey Myers and Anna Bright had two hits apiece for Hillcrest.
Macey Cox tossed three perfect innings with seven strikeouts to get the pitching victory. Dara McDaniel finished up the shutout with a scoreless fourth, striking out one.
LR head coach Emily McGee singled out Brianna Johnson and Ali Whaley for good defensive play.
Hillcrest plays at Crockett County today.
R’mont 13, Lake Rd. 4
Macy Muirhead had three hits in as many trips to the plate and McClay Ferrell went 2-for-4 to lead the Mustang girls.
Marissa French, Kari O’Steen, Carly Bramlett and Ashley Alford all also had hits for Ridgemont.
French was the winning hurler with eight strikeouts. O’Steen finished up in the pitcher’s circle.
Jenna Smith had two hits and both Madison Gargus and Avery Johnson had singles for Lake Road.
Smith, Johnson and Lindsey Craddock got credit for good defense by McGee.
LR (0-8) plays at Martin today.
UC 14, Lake Co. 2
Everybody got in on the Lady Tornado triumph as each varsity player scored at least once in a lopsided victory vs. LC.
Alivia Bishop scored three times, while Ashley Brown, Taylor Crittendon and MollyBeth Blackwell all crossed the plate twice for Union City.
Crittendon had six strikeouts and two defensive putouts in the contest that was shortened to three innings due to the mercy rule.
Union City hosts Lake Road on Thursday.
South Fulton will be in action today against Dresden at home and then travel to Ridgemont on Thursday. Published in The Messenger 9.25.12
