UTM’s Flenorl has
top ‘performance’

Junior defensive back Fred Flenorl was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for his effort this past Saturday night in UT Martin’s 31-6 victory over Austin Peay at Governors Stadium in Clarksville.
The UTM defensive back, from Memphis, recorded seven tackles, assisted on a tackle for a loss, had an interception with a 25-yard return and a fumble recovery for 11 yards and a touchdown.
Flenorl has 24 tackles in four games this season. He also has two forced fumbles.
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferment in college football.
Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Skyhawk softball
wins 4 in own classic

UT Martin posted a 4-2 record in their own Fall Softball Classic this past weekend at the Martin Recreation Complex and Bettye Giles Field on campus.
In addition to playing in six games, the Skyhawks raised more than $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and breast cancer awareness.
The Skyhawks opened the two-day, 18-team tournament with a 12-2 victory over Jackson Community College and a 4-0 win over Bethel.
The winning streak was halted Friday night when Chattanooga State downed the Skyhawks 9-4 and Campbellsville came from behind to beat the Skyhawks 6-5.
Saturday was much better. The Skyhawks posted back-to-back 8-0 shutouts over Rend Lake Community College and Columbia State.
The Skyhawks won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title in 2012 and then claimed the OVC Tournament title to advance to the NCAA Regional for the second time in school history.

UT Martin splits

UT Martin  posted its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season Sunday with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory (20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21) over Eastern Illinois at Lantz Arena. With the victory, the Skyhawks improve to 5-10 with a 1-1 OVC record.
Lynsey Hazelwood tallied her third double-double in the last four matches, racking up a team-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs. Emily Keaton also registered 11 kills, while Amanda Crask handed out 31 assists for the Skyhawk offense.
Defensively, four players tallied double-figure dig totals, led by a match-high 27 by Kasey Elswick. Along with Hazelwood’s 10, Chelsea Bowles amassed 13 digs and Crask completed her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs. UT Martin also tied a season-high with 11 blocks, paced by a career-best eight from freshman Shelby Hoskins.
On Saturday, UTM fell 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 10-25) at SIU-Edwardsville in both teams’ OVC opener.
Hazelwood and Jackie Harter each recorded seven kills to lead the Skyhawks (4-10, 0-1 OVC). Crask tallied 26 assists and Elswick scooped up 15 digs.
