Devilettes end skid
vs. Gibson County
South Fulton returned to its winning ways with a 7-0 shutout of host Gibson County in girls’ prep soccer action Thursday.
The Devilettes, who’d dropped consecutive matches after a 4-0 start, scored all their goals in the first half against GC.
Desiray Sturgeon recorded a hat trick for SF, while Lexi Johnson scored twice and Samantha Murray had one goal.
Murray, Johnson and Natalie Adams all had assists for the victors.
Taleah Cross had eight saves in goal to preserve the shutout with Mikaela Hardy credited with three blocks and Emilee Goodman one.
Adams drew praise from first-year head coach Emily Belote for her individual effort, as did Sturgeon.
SF (5-2) plays at Crockett County Tuesday.
Talented Fulton club
eases past Union City
Fulton City proved to be too much for the Union City volleyball team Thursday afternoon.
That’s been the rule all season for the Lady Bulldogs, though.
Fulton posted its 14th shutout win of the season with a 3-0 (25-2, 25-7, 25-3) verdict over the Lady Tornadoes at the UC gymnasium.
Brittany Parker led the Lady Twisters with nine passes and 20 digs.
Halle Kennedy had 15 digs, while Raven Fair had seven pass attempts and one kill.
Union City falls to 0-8 and travels to Mayfield on Tuesday.
Now 14-2 on the season, Fulton has won 31 of its 36 games played.
In junior varsity play, Fulton won 2-0 (25-9, 25-10).
Molly Maclin, Calyx Clemons and Aaliyah Daniels each had an ace, while Breanna Beard had four passing attempts and four digs for Union City.
1-under low score
at Hickman event
The foursome of LeAnn Gantt, Carole Lattus, Anne Kincade and Liz Roberts combined to shoot 1-under par and win the weekly women’s scramble at the Hickman Country Club Thursday.
There was a tie for second between a group made up of JoLynn Gibson, Cathy Hall, Kathy Barker and Donna Dunn, and another consisting of Janis Garrigan, Jackie Russell, Carole Potts and Dino Nerren.
Annell Goodwin won the closest-to-the-pin competition on No. 8.
The ladies scramble every Thursday at the Hickman course.

Simpson shoots ace
at Wyridge course
Bobby Simpson recorded a hole-in-one at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
Simpson aced the second hole, using a gap wedge.
