Events will host candidates, voters
Business leaders and community members are joining together to present an event designed to “inform” candidates of their concerns in Ward 2 of Martin.
Candidates who are seeking office in Ward 2 during the November election have been invited to attend the first-ever “Inform Your Candidate” event set from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Looking Glass Coffee and Curiosities, located at 215 South Lindell St. in historic downtown Martin.
Incumbents and their challengers in state and federal races have also been invited to the attend. They include State Senate hopefuls Brad Thompson and John Stevens and State Representative hopefuls Mark Maddox and Andy Holt.
Martin Alderman Johnny Tuck currently holds the Ward 2 seat. He is being challenged by David Sudberry for the seat. Both candidates have expressed interest in the “Inform Your Candidate” event.
Candidates are being asked to listen to their constituents that evening as the event is geared with the voters’ interests in mind.
Issues up for grabs during the event include absentee property owners, neglected properties, and unkempt property throughout Ward 2.
Voters, especially those in Martin’s Ward 2, are encouraged to come out and “inform” their candidates that evening.
The Weakley County Democratic Party is planning a homecoming reception Sept. 27 for voters and candidates in the ballroom of UT Martin’s Boling Center.
The reception will kick off at 5:30 that evening and will include a line-up of speakers and appetizers.
Speakers include former state representative and candidate Mark Maddox, state senate candidate Brad Thompson, former U.S. Rep. John Tanner, Mike McWherter and editor of the “Daily Buzz” Trace Sharp.
A representative of the Tennessee Democratic Party has also been invited to attend the event.
The Democratic Homecoming Reception is being sponsored by the Weakley County Democratic Party, the Weakley County Federation of Democratic Women and the UT Martin College Democrats.
Tickets for the event are 415 and can be purchased from any Weakley County Democratic Women member.
This will present an opportunity for community members to register to vote, meet the candidates and enjoy food and fellowship.
Call Linda Ramsey at 225-7729 for additional information. Anyone interested in selling tickets is asked to call Marci Floyd.
The event is set to conclude around 7:30 that evening.
