Strikeouts come by the dozen in UC verdict over Lake Road
Taylor Crittendon fanned the first 10 batters she faced and finished with 12 strikeouts in all to lead the Union City Middle School softball team to a 4-3 triumph over Lake Road Monday.
In other games on the local diamonds, Hillcrest beat Ridgemont 5-3, and Martin topped South Fulton 3-1.
The following is a roundup of those contests reported to The Messenger.
UC 4, Lake Road 3
Crittendon whiffed the final LR hitter to end the game and also helped herself at the plate with a pair of triples, a run scored and a RBI.
Alivia Bishop had a three-base hit and knocked in two runs for the Lady Tornadoes, while Brooklyn Cobb scored what would prove to be the deciding run on a passed ball in the fifth.
UC committed just two errors in the game defensively in support of Crittendon.
Kijsa Williams had two hits for Lake Road, while Shelby Mosley also had a base knock.
Lady Generals’ head coach Emily McGee cited Madison Gargus and Avery Johnson for good work on defense.
Union City hosts Hillcrest today, while LR (0-4) plays Martin at home on Thursday.
Martin 3, SF 1
Four errors led to a pair of unearned runs and contributed greatly to South Fulton’s loss.
The Lady Panthers scored twice in the third and once more in the fourth with just one hit as the Devilettes were guilty of four misplays.
Losing pitcher Katie Clapper gave up just one earned tally and finished with two strikeouts, one walk and five hits allowed.
Clapper had two of SF’s five hits.
Summer Britt, Brittney Proctor and Tiffany Potts had a single apiece for the Big Red.
South Fulton (2-3) plays host to Union City on Thursday.
Hillcrest 5, Ridgemont 3
The Lady Cougars scored twice in the first and three more times in the third to improve to 7-2.
McClain Bell continued her hot hitting with two hits in three at-bats for the victors. Bell also drove in a pair of runs.
Winning pitcher Macey Cox helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a RBI. Cox struck out eight, allowed three hits and did not walk a batter to gain the pitching triumph.
Lauren Ivy, Olivia Matherly, Audrey Myers, Mari Hanna Short and Mollie Johnson all added singles for Hillcrest.
Ridgemont once again failed to report its statistics.
