Haag heads up local golfers at Wingfoot tourney

Westview’s Houston Haag led the way for Weakley County golfers in tournament play at Union City last week.
UT Martin, meanwhile, was near the top of its tournament this week
Houston Haag topped the Weakley County contingent at the Wingfoot Classic golf tournament at Wingfoot Golf Course in Union City last week.
Haag shot a 73, missing out on runner-up honors in a one-hole playoff with Trenton’s Ethan Temple.
HIGH SCHOOL
Emmitt Daniel shot an 88, Jordan Long shot a 90 and both Barrett Belote and Conner Simpson fired a 91 as the Chargers finished with a team score of 342.
Greenfield shot a 366, led by Tony Robinson with a 78.
Chris Reddick finished with a 90, Mason Hilliard shot a 97 and Damon Biddle finished with a 101.
Peyton Williams led Dresden’s three-man crew with a 93, while Joseph Martin had a 116 and Devin Drushal totaled a 123.
On the girls’ side, McCall Scates had a 108 and Ashley Tucker shot a 123 for Greenfield.
McKenzie was first overall, and Henry County was second in boys’ team play, while South Fulton and Carlisle County were first and second, respectively, in the girls’ field.
COLLEGE
UT Martin shot a two-round 574, 2-under par, and is in second place in Morehead State’s  Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-Off Invitational in Pineville, Ky.
Two Skyhawk golfers are among the top five after two rounds. Junior Tyler Shellnut is tied for first with a two-round 137. He shot a 3-under 69 in the first round a 4-under 68 in the second round.
Sophomore Brendon Caballero, who was tied for the lead after the first round, shot a two-round 141.
