Posted: Friday, September 7, 2012 12:00 pm

Both Martin Middle School fall sports teams picked up wins on Tuesday as the football team beat Crocket County and the softball squad took care of Ridgemont.
The Panthers improved to 2-1 in football with their win and the Lady Panthers are now 4-3 with their victory.
No other middle school reports were made available to The Press. Coaches are urged to report all games in order to promote their players and programs.
FOOTBALL
Martin 14, CC 0
Martin and Crocket County battled in a defensive game Tuesday night, but the Panthers used a pair of big plays to get the win against the Cavaliers.
Heath Hester had a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and Tavian Holland caught a McKinney Baker pass for a 31-yard score.
The Panthers’ defense was the star of this game with D.J. Coffman getting one safety, one sack and eight tackles. Nathan Maya also had one sack and nine tackles. Brantley Baxter added one sack to the game totals along with one hurry and six tackles.
Martin will be at home on Tuesday against North Parkway. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
SOFTBALL
Martin 12, R’mont 0
The Lady Panthers pounded out 10 hits in their 12-0 win against the Ridgemont Lady Mustangs on Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Allie Cantrell not only held Ridgemont at bay, she also helped her own cause at the plate by knocking in five runs with a pair of doubles and scored a run.
Cantrell allowed only four hits in four innings of work.
According to coach Judy Suiter, it was Martin’s best overall performance of the season.
The junior varsity squad also picked a win against Ridgemont with a score of 10-1.
The Lady Panthers will play Union City this afternoon at 4:30 in Union City, followed by a junior varsity game. Published in The WCP 9.6.12
