Eight games moved
because of Isaac
Eight is enough.
A total of eight high school football games across West Tennessee and Western Kentucky have been moved to tonight because of the threat of inclement weather from what was Hurricane Isaac.
Along with Humboldt at South Fulton, Greenfield at Lake County, Milan at Gibson County and South Side at Bolivar, games pitting Covington at Dyersburg, Crockett County at Haywood, Chester County at Jackson Central-Merry and Fulton County at Reidland have all been bumped up a night.
Reports from other media outlets that Union City had moved its homecoming game with Halls to tonight are inaccurate. UC will hold its annual homecoming parade tonight at 6.
The Bruceton at Huntingdon game has also been left in its original Friday night slot.
South Fulton’s contest vs. Humboldt is set to begin at 7:30, after the Red Devils’ middle school game vs. Lake Road.
Soybean Festival
has 5K/1K event
The Tennessee Soybean Festival 5K and 1K race will be held Sept. 8 in Martin.
The event will feature a 5K run and walk as well as a 1K kids run. It will start at the Martin Recreation Complex softball parking area.
The kids run begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K and walk at 8:15. The events will be timed by the Jackson Roadrunners Club.
Entry fee is $12 in advance and $18 on race day. Forms are available at BSN Sports and Sideline Physical Therapy in Martin or by calling (731) 587-9153.
All registered entrants will receive a free T-shirt and trophies will be awarded to the top finishers in the 5K run and kids run.
9-under, scorecard
get win at ‘Pop’
Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly men’s scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 9-under par.
Members of the winning team, in a scorecard playoff, included Dave Frankum, Ty Tanner, Ron Cooper, Wynn Burnett, John Tanner, Portis Tanner and Rodger Tanner.
Also shooting 9-under was the team of Robert Huffstutter, Matt Russell, Bruce Culver, Rick Smith, Glen Hale and Rob Jordan.
The scramble, which is $10 for members and $15 for non-members, includes the 9-hole event and dinner afterward.
It begins at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday and participants are encouraged to call the club by 5:15 each week. For more information, call 885-3650.
Failed drug tests
did in Rogers at UT
COOKEVILLE (AP) — Tennessee Tech wide receiver Da’Rick Rogers says failed drug tests caused his recent departure from Tennessee.
Rogers said earlier this week at a press conference at his new school it was “a couple of drug tests, yes sir.” He says it was him “being a young, immature guy. Those are things that I’ve got to work on and I plan to work on.”
Rogers was suspended indefinitely by Tennessee on Thursday for an unspecified violation of team rules. His transfer to Tennessee Tech was announced four days later. Because Tennessee Tech is a Football Championship Subdivision program, Rogers can play for his new team immediately rather than sitting out a season.
