New trainers fan out across local schools
Union City High School and several local middle schools have new athletic trainers serving their student-athletes for the 2012-13 school years.
Representatives of Synergy Therapy and Aquatics will provide their respective talents to UCHS athletics as well as Union City Middle School, Black Oak, Hillcrest, Lake Road and Ridgemont schools.
Nicole Mallory has been appointed to oversee the Tornado sports programs on the high school level, while Toshia Yap will be the athletic trainer for UCMS.
One of Obion County’s own, Jenifer Davis, will be providing athletic training services through STA for BO, H’crest, LR and Ridgemont.
• Mallory is married to one of UCHS’s new assistant football coaches, Ryan Mallory. Her father-in-law is new Tornado line coach Ricke Mallory.
Nicole graduated from High Point University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine. She then obtained a Master of Science degree in Human Movement Science from The University of Memphis, and later obtained a Master of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University.
She is also certified as a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
Mallory has previously served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the University of Memphis football and baseball teams.
• Yap, a Martin resident. graduated from UT Martin in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in athletic training.
She is a high school graduate of Jackson South Side High School, where she was a member of the varsity softball and volleyball teams.
She has worked at Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine since May of 2011. During that time, she has assisted Dr. Michael Calfee in surgery and also provided athletic training for Huntingdon High School last year.
• Davis, who was a 2006 OCHS graduate and member of the Lady Rebel basketball team while earning a scholarship to Rhodes College in Memphis, graduated from Murray State  in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in athletic training.
She was a chosen to intern for the ESPN’s Wide World of Sports at Disney World in Orlando from August through December of 2011. 
She also has been a first aid volunteer for many events such as St. Jude’s  Children Research Hospital Marathon, Nashville Ultra Marathon, Western Kentucky Special Olympics Area X games.
She has been assisting Dr. Calfee in clinic and also during surgery cases. 
Davis, who is engaged to Adam Cooley and resides in Union City, joined the STA team in July. Published in The Messenger 8.28.12
