HEADING DOWN THE HIGHWAY – Almost 90 motorcycles roared to life Saturday morning for the 2nd annual Joey Guest Poker Run, hosted by the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.S.). Hardcore bikers and casual riders alike lined up at American Legion Post 55 in Martin to help raise money for the family of the late Braden Hudson, an EMT and firefighter who lost his life in a tragic car crash two months ago. The convoy thundered from the Legion to stops in Sharon, Dresden, Fulton and Union City before returning for barbecue plates, auctions, a bike show and music provided by Ryan Lee. “Everything was a huge success,” said S.A.L.S. member Kenny Park. “We raised $12,000. When we finally totaled everything up, I was shocked.” According to Park, this year’s Poker Run raised thousands of dollars more than previous events, far exceeding everyone’s expectations. The Hudson family has said the money will be put into a trust for Braden’s young son, Memphis, in order to help with his future college expenses. The Joey Guest Poker Run kicked off last year in honor of the late Joey Guest, a fellow S.A.L.S. member and sports writer and photographer, who died in a motorcycle accident last spring.
