Lions dominate WC from start to finish

Posted: Wednesday, August 29, 2012 12:01 pm

Dresden Middle School used an opening kickoff fumble by West Carroll as the catalyst to a 46-0 win over the War Eagles Thursday night at McKenzie.
The Lions put 22 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter alone following the opening kickoff fumble by the Eagles.
The Lions recovered the ball on the Rebels’ 17-yard-line, and then Quincey McDonald ran the ball in to give Dresden the early lead.
McDonald added another touchdown later in the first quarter on a 24-yard run. The two-point conversion was good to give Dresden a 16-0 lead.
Quarterback Dresser Winn added a three-yard rushing touchdown to finish out the scoring in the first quarter.
McDonald scored his third touchdown of the game on a 34-yard run in the second quarter to put the Lions up 28-0. Winn found Austin Thomas for a 24-yard touchdown later in the second quarter. The two-point attempt failed and the Lions went in at the half with a 34-0 advantage over WC.
It did not take long for Dresden to strike once again, this time on the opening kickoff of the second half. Dylan Yates took the kickoff at the Dresden 40 and raced 60 yards for the score.
The Lions’ defense stopped a West Carroll scoring drive when Blasé Cashion intercepted a pass at the Dresden 20 and took it all the way for an 80-yard touchdown.
McDonald ran the ball three times for 73 yards.
He scored each time he ran the ball out of the backfield. He also had one reception for 22 yards.
Winn finished 119 yards on 5-of-8 passing. He threw for one score and rushed for another.
The Lions are now 2-0 on the season and will attempt to remain unbeaten when they travel to Henry County this Thursday. Published in The WCP 8.28.12
