| Ballots set for Super Tuesday |

The ballots are set for Super Tuesday in Weakley County with three mayoral races to follow, as well as a number of new challengers running for alderman seats.
In Gleason, Mayor “Little” Jack Dunning will be challenged by Diana Poole. Four seats will be decided in the alderman race, as incumbent Jerry S. Connell will have to defend his seat against Charles Bookout, Greg Browning, Krista Morse and Randy Stewart. The seats belonging to aldermen Jerry A. Dunn, Jr. and Mike Morris will not be on the ballot due to the staggering of alderman elections in Gleason.
The City of Greenfield will be voting in a new mayor Nov. 6. Current Mayor Eddie Joe McKelvy will not be seeking re-election, so voters will be choosing a new leader from candidates Lisa Mitchell Hilliard, Cindy McAdams, and Bobby Morris II. Greenfield will also be deciding on four alderman slots, choosing between incumbent Greenfield aldermen Paul Grooms, Troy R. Jones and Paul D. Richmond, who will be challenged by Martha Allen, Laralee S. Boyd, Donald Ray High, James Roy Pope, Raymond Sellers, and Jim Witherspoon. Alderman Bruce McCartney will not be seeking re-election.
Martin will be electing three aldermen on Super Tuesday, although only one race will be contested. David Sudberry will be challenging incumbent Johnny Tuck for the seat in Ward 2. Danny M. Nanney of Ward 1 and Randy Edwards of Ward 3 will be running unopposed.
The City of Sharon will be voting on its next mayor in a race between Mayor Monroe E. Ary and challenger Steven Scott Vaughan. In the hunt for alderman in Sharon are challengers Floyd Edwards, Stewart Broussard, and Wanda Hamlin, who will be running against incumbent Tommy Jones. Jason Plunk will be required to run again for the seat that he was appointed to two months ago.
There are two alderman seats to be decided on this year, as well as one to fill a vacant, unexpired term previously held by Jason Plunk in Sharon.
Dresden will be electing three aldermen, however, there are only three candidates in the running. This guarantees that Joyce Hurt, Richard “Dick” Tidwell, and Jeffrey Washburn will all be victorious on election night.
In state-wide races, Republican Bob Corker, who soundly won the party’s nomination with 85.13 percent of the vote, will be running against Democratic candidate Mark E. Clayton, who got the Dems’ nod with only 30 percent of the votes, in the race for United States Senate in Tennessee.
In the race for the US House of Representatives, the 8th Congressional District will be voting for Republican candidate and incumbent Stephen Fincher, who took the primary with 86.67 percent of the party vote, or Democrat Timothy D. Dixon, who inched out his competition in the primary by less than 1 percent of the vote.
The state’s 24th Senatorial District race will come down to either Republican candidate John Stevens of Huntingdon and Democrat Brad Thompson of Midway.
The 76th District of the Tennessee House of Representatives will be represented by either Republican incumbent Andy Holt of Palmersville or Democrat Mark Maddox of Dresden.
As the vast majority of Weakley Countians are aware, the nation will also choose its next President Nov. 6. Voters will need to present a voter registration card and a valid photo ID when they arrive at their polling places on Election Day and during early voting.
Those who hold property in any municipality in the county that is not considered a residence, are allowed to also vote in those municipal races. Voters must be registered to vote in those districts and voter registration can be obtained at the Election Commission office in Dresden.
