Event is an effort to protect children
Evolution Martial Arts will be hosting a freeevent from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at its location on 12894 Hwy 45 North in Martin. The first 100 children will receive a TN CHIP Child Identification DNA Kit.
TN CHIP was established to raise public awareness concerning the risk of abduction or exploitation that our children now face in today’s society.
At each TN CHIP Event, parents are provided, at no cost, a complete ID package that has been designed to provide a thorough description of their child.
Each ID packet contains vital identifying items for a child, such as comprehensive identification questionnaire, hair samples, DNA sample, etc…
The ID packets are retained by the parents and each parent is encouraged to annually update their child’s ID kit as they grow with a current photo and any other pertinent information about their child that may aid law enforcement agencies in the recovery of their child should the unthinkable ever happen. This effort was undertaken by the Masonic Lodge organizations across the nation.
“This is one of the first preventative efforts we have partnered with. Usually we are recognizing something after the fact, but this for prevention,” Mason Casey Hood said.
“Our goal is to have make sure every child in Tennessee is a part of this progrma within five years,” Hood added.
While the Masons are partnering with this effort, Hood stressed the organization retains no information from the ID kits.
They will be on hand to help parents fill out the information packets at the event, or parents are allowed to take them home to be filled out. ID packets will be handed out while supplies last Saturday.
The Masons plan to also offer the kits during the Pecan Festival Sept. 1 in Troy and during the Soybean Festival in Martin the first week of September.
