Firefighters from several local fire departments responded to a house fire at 4407 Old Samburg Road, just north of Shawtown, Tuesday afternoon. The fire generated thick smoke and spread quickly into the attic of the home, which is owned by Jay and Gloria Litchford. The couple (at right) was relieved when their pet dog, Hercules, was rescued and brought to them as they watched their home burn. Firefighters from Hornbeak, Samburg, Union City and Tiptonville were on the scene for more than four hours, according to Hornbeak Fire Chief Bob Reavis. Also, a Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City ambulance was on the scene for medical standby. No injuries were reported and the residence was declared a total loss. |
